Speakers will participate live, by link or video during Gothenburg Climate Week, either at the Forum-21 Climate Conference or at The Perfect World Award’s Award-Ceremony Banquet.

Short about Terry Tamminen

Author, lecturer, and strategist on energy and the environment. In 2003, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed him as Secretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency. In December 2004, he was appointed Cabinet Secretary, the Chief Policy Advisor to the Governor.

Tamminen continues to advise the former governor, and other regional, national, and international leaders, on energy and environmental policy.

Short about Erik Solheim

Norwegian diplomat and former politician. Solheim served in the Norwegian government from 2005 to 2012 as Minister of International Development and Minister of the Environment.

Following an extensive career focusing on environment and development in government and international organizations, Solheim was Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) 2016 – 2018.

Short about Stuart Templar

Manchester-born former diplomat and Director of Sustainability at Volvo Cars.

After 16 years with the UK Foreign Office, Templar is now in his third year as Director of Sustainability at Volvo Cars in Gothenburg, Sweden. As a diplomat, he used to travel all over Europe, working on a variety of topics including human rights, EU affairs, as well as an international marketing campaign to promote Britain overseas for which he received an honor from HM The Queen.

Short about Nina Jensen

Norwegian marine biologist, ocean conservationist and former Secretary General of the WWF Norway. Now CEO of REV Ocean, Jensen was appointed to champion REV Ocean and implement the goal of going ‘from Curiosity to Understanding to Solutions’. 

REV Ocean is a research and expedition vessel (REV) and super yacht. REV Ocean is working to improve understanding of the ocean and foster concrete solutions through three initiatives: the world’s largest research and expedition vessel (REV), the World Ocean Headquarters and an open, global data platform.

Short about Dr Sylvia Earle

American marine biologist, explorer, author, and lecturer. Dr Earle has been a National Geographic explorer-in-residence since 1998. She was the first female chief scientist of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and Dr Earle was named by Time Magazine as its first Hero for the Planet in 1998.

She is part of the group Ocean Elders, which is dedicated to protecting the ocean and its wildlife. Dr Earle was also the recipient of The Perfect World Foundation’s honorary-award The Perfect World Award, in 2017.

Short about Paul de Gelder

Former Australian Navy diver and Shark Attack survivor Paul de Gelder, today a Shark Activist and Ocean Conservationist. 

de Gelder is working with lecturing, documentaries and TV Shows to spread awareness about the importance of sharks for a health ocean ecosystem. 

“People should not be afraid of having sharks in the ocean. They should be afraid of not having sharks in the ocean. The sharks keep the ocean healthy. They keep the fish stock healthy. They keep the ecosystems alive.” – Paul de Gelder, in the 2021 documentary Seaspiracy.

Paul de Gelder is also a The Perfect World Foundation Ambassador.

 

Short about Dr Wanjira Mathai

Kenyan environmentalist and activist, and daughter of 2004 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Prof Wangari Maathai. Mathai is Vice President and Regional Director for Africa at the World Resources Institute, based in Nairobi, Kenya. In this role, she takes on global issues including deforestation and energy access.

Mathai was selected as one of the 100 Most Influential Africans by New African Magazine in 2018 for her role serving as the senior advisor at the World Resources Institute as well as for her recent campaign to plant over 30 million trees through her work at the Green Belt Movement.

Short about Prince Albert II of Monaco

In June 2006, HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco decided to establish his Foundation to address our planet’s alarming environmental situation. The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation (PA2F) is dedicated to the protection of the environment and the promotion of sustainable development on a global scale. The Foundation supports initiatives of public and private organizations, in the fields of research and studies, technological innovation and socially-aware practices.

In 2021, HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco will be the eighth recipient of The Perfect World Foundation’s honorary-award The Perfect World Award.

Short about Inge Solheim

Norwegian explorer and adventurer. Growing up in the small village of Otta, nestled amongst the towering peaks and icy glaciers of Norway, Inge developed a passion for exploring remote areas from an early age. He learnt to appreciate the physical and mental disciplines of living for extended periods in the wilderness. After a short yet successful career in finance, he left city life and returned to the outdoors

Inge is best known for leading the ‘Walking With The Wounded’ expeditions to the North and South Poles with Prince Harry. He featured in the resulting TV series which was shown in over 60 countries worldwide.
